Abner

Saul’s cousin and commander of Saul’s army. When David defeated the giant Goliath, Abner brought David back to meet Saul. Later, when Saul was trying to kill David, Abner helped Saul look for David and stayed close to Saul to protect him. After Saul’s death, Abner helped make Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, the king. This caused two years of war between David’s men and those following Ish-bosheth. Abner later tried to convince Saul’s followers to be loyal to David, but he was murdered by Joab.
