Habakkuk
A little-known prophet working in Judah around the time of the prophet Jeremiah. Habakkuk wrote his Old Testament book sometime between 605 and 586 BC. In his book, Habakkuk asked questions and then quietly listened to God’s answers. He asked why the people of Judah had become so wicked. He told them to be sorry for their wrongdoings and be willing to change. If they refused, God would allow their enemies to the north, the Chaldeans, to destroy Judah. But even after bad times come to God’s people, Habakkuk said, they must remember God’s faithfulness and trust Him. The last chapter of Habakkuk is a lovely poem expressing Habakkuk’s faith in God’s power and control of the world.
