Hope

The expectation of a good result. Because the Bible often connects hope with God, hope and trust often have the same meaning in some passages. The person who hopes waits for God to act in some way: to keep a promise He made or to bring about a rescue.

Job proclaimed his hope—his trust—in God, even though terrible things happened to him. After delivering bad news to the people of God, Old Testament prophets often spoke words of hope to encourage the people. For example, though Jeremiah predicted the fall of Jerusalem, he included a message of hope: God’s mercy was new every day. For Christians, Jesus provides the ultimate hope: eternal life with God.
