Nile River

The longest river in the world. It runs nearly 4,132 miles through the middle of Africa to Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. A very wide plain along the coast of Egypt is flooded each July by the Nile River. This flooding makes the land good for farming. Without the Nile River, the country of Egypt could not have survived. The seven years of famine in Joseph’s time were probably caused when the Nile did not flood as usual.
