Nineveh
One of the oldest cities of the world. It was founded by Nimrod the famous hunter. Archaeological digging has shown that people lived there as early as 4500 BC. When it was the capital of the empire of Assyria, it had beautiful palaces for its kings, temples for its gods, and a canal thirty miles long that ran from a dam to the north.
In the Bible Nineveh is best known as the city to which Jonah went to preach. The people expressed their sorrow over their wrongdoings when Jonah warned them that God would destroy the city. God spared the city then, but it was finally destroyed in 612 BC by the Babylonians, Medes, and Scythians.
