Rahab

One of the women mentioned in the family line of Jesus. Although she lived in Jericho, she let two Israelite spies stay in her home. Messengers from the king of the city told Rahab to turn the men over to them, but she hid them under stalks of flax on her roof. In return for their safety, Rahab asked the spies to protect her and her family during the Israelite invasion. They agreed, and she helped them escape by letting them down over the walls of the city using a scarlet rope. The spies told her to hang the rope from her window so the Israelite soldiers would know which house was hers. She followed their orders, and Joshua had Rahab and her family brought out of Jericho before the city was burned.
