Thought

Decades after Moses had left his people and his criminal record behind, he still carried doubts about who he was and what he could do. Even when God Himself came to him through fire, Moses still felt uncertain that he could be used by God. But God was certain and steadfast, and He promised to be with Moses every step of the way. And He will be with you, too, when it’s your turn to speak up for God!

Word

The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Question

How do you start a fire?

Have you ever watched someone start a campfire or a fire in a fireplace? What is usually required to get a fire to start? Imagine what it would be like if you saw a fire start out of nowhere.

Challenge

No one knows exactly where the bush was that Moses saw burning. And that’s probably a good thing. People have a tendency to worship places and things sometimes more than they worship God. Besides, the event of the burning bush wouldn’t be the last time God spoke to His people through fire. Look up Deuteronomy 4:9–19, and find out what warning Moses gave the people.

Prayer

God, I’m glad that I can talk to You anytime. Please help me know You are with me when it’s time for me to speak up for what’s right. Amen.
