Thought

Goliath didn’t have to do much to appear fierce. At over nine feet tall, and armored from head to toe, his looks did the talking for him. David, on the other hand, was younger and smaller and had no armor. Even when Saul offered his own, David declined it. Instead, David would rely on his past shepherding experiences to give him courage. He knew the God who protected him from wild animals could protect him from anything—even giant Philistines. Bronze armor might keep you safe, but trust in a faithful God will keep you strong and courageous.

The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”

Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”

Question

What would your fierce enemy look like?

Goliath was certainly the stuff of nightmares for some of the Israelite soldiers, but what about you? What kind of foe would cause you to want to run? If you had to design a fierce enemy, what would that person (or thing) look like?

Challenge

One of the best ways we can gain courage from God’s faithfulness is to remember and share stories about times when we felt God was with us. As you read your Action Bible stories, write down things you want to remember about what God did for His people and what He’s doing for you now. Or use a device to take a picture of images that will help you remember and save those as the home image on your screen. Ask a family member to share stories about times when they knew God was with your family.

Prayer

Lord, You are with me and my family. I want to remember Your faithfulness today so I can have courage to serve you tomorrow. Amen.
