Thought

Jesus told another story to explain how happy God is when someone repents. A young man demanded his inheritance from his father, and he lived recklessly until he had spent all his money. When he had nothing left, he returned to beg his father for a job, but before he got to the house, his father ran out to pull him into the biggest hug. Then they celebrated together with a party! God loves us all so much that, when we repent and go to Him, He celebrates even more than we can imagine. God is our Father who always loves us, always wants us, and will always welcome us home.

Word

Luke 15:32 NIV

But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

Question

Why was the older brother angry?

The older brother in this story was not in a partying mood. Would you have been angry in his situation? Do you think he had a right to feel angry? Explain your reasons for your answer.

Challenge

Imagine the kind of party God might create. What would the decorations be? Who would be there? What party food would be served? Draw a picture or write a story to describe God’s big party to welcome His children home. Then ask a parent to help you make some cupcakes or other party food to celebrate being in God’s family together!

Prayer

God, thank You for celebrating for us and always being willing to welcome us. Thank You for loving us no matter what. Amen.
