Thought

Sometimes the ways of God are hard to accept because they don’t seem like a “normal” way to make decisions. Naaman struggled to have enough faith to obey the guidance of Elisha because it seemed odd to wash in a muddy river. But once Naaman obeyed, he was healed. True faith in God allows for new ways of doing things and grows a deeper trust in God.

Word

Isaiah 58:8–9 NIV

Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.”

Question

How does knowing God is for everyone—not just Israel—make you feel?

God’s healing of Naaman, an outsider to Israel, demonstrated that Israel’s God is the God of everybody. God made a way for Naaman to know Him, as Jesus made a way for people from every tribe, tongue, and nation to be part of God’s Kingdom. How does knowing this grow your trust in God?

Challenge

What are some new ways that you could share about Jesus with others? Make a list of people that you care about and then list the things they like to do. How might you participate in those things with them to show that you care and love them? The first step to sharing Jesus is to be like Jesus to others.

Prayer

Dear God, help me have faith when it’s difficult to understand Your ways. Amen.
