Rainbows have been a message of hope since God first set a rainbow in the sky and made a covenant with Noah. During the pandemic of COVID-19, families in some countries were encouraged to put rainbows in their windows as a sign of hope and unity to other families in their neighborhoods. But how do the rainbows we see today happen? Rainbows appear in the sky when the light from the sun passes through raindrops, causing the light to split into different colors our eyes can see. What do you think allows us to see a bigger arc of a rainbow: when the sun is higher in the sky or lower?

Make a rainbow promise book for someone in your family. Take seven index cards, and color at least the border of each card with one of the colors in the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. In the center of each card, write a promise you want to make to the person. For example, you might write: “I promise to clean my room every week,” or “I promise to read my Bible,” or “I promise to use kind words.” When you are finished writing your promises, punch a hole in the top left corner of the cards, and then tie them together with a piece of yarn or ribbon. Give your rainbow promise book to the person you choose.
