Thought

Crowds always followed Jesus during His time on earth. When He spoke to the people, He often used stories to make His point, and sometimes the things He said were hard to understand. But there was and still is great wisdom in His teaching, and that wisdom is available to everyone who asks Him to help them understand. Just like the disciples, we can come to Jesus and ask Him to tell us what He meant, and He’ll open our eyes to His truth.

Word

Matthew 6:33 NIV

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Question

If you had to use a story to teach someone about something, what kind of story would you tell? And what would you teach?

Jesus told stories that used familiar objects, kinds of people, and traditions to help people understand important things about God and His kingdom. Sometimes people didn’t understand His wisdom, but the stories helped them pay attention and want to hear more.

Challenge

Choose one of the parables from Matthew 13 or Mark 4 and create your own version of it. You might want to draw a picture that illustrates it, make a video, or write it out in your own words using objects and people from your life.

Prayer

God, thank You for explaining Your truth to us through stories and for helping us to understand them. Amen.
