John the Baptist had an important purpose: his job was to tell people that the Messiah was coming. When he heard God speaking to him in the wilderness, he believed God and shared the message of repentance with everyone who would listen. To repent means to feel sorry for the wrong things you have done and to turn away from those things. We can follow John’s example and share about our faith in Jesus with those around us. We can also turn away from wrong things we’ve done and ask Jesus to forgive us. Remember that you don’t have to be perfect to choose to follow Jesus and tell others about Him. John the Baptist wasn’t perfect either, but he led many people to the forgiveness and new life they found in Christ.

Question

Did you know that John the Baptist’s diet of locusts and honey was actually quite nutritious?

Locusts, or grasshoppers, are very high in protein and other nutrients. Honey has amazing antibiotic and antiviral properties.

Challenge

This week, spend some time outside with your Bible. Pick a passage to read. Then pray about it, asking God what He wants to tell you.

Prayer

God, please help me to have the faith to hear what You’re telling me and then go and do what You ask me to do. Amen.
