Thought

From the time they were in the womb, Jacob and Esau were wrestling each other. It’s not really surprising to learn that they continued to compete in their grown lives. Jacob betrayed the trust of his brother by persuading him to sell his birthright. But you could say that Esau also betrayed himself by being willing to sell his birthright so cheaply. Plans made in haste (or in hunger) are often bad plans.

Word

Genesis 26:2–3 NIV

The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.”

Question

What’s your favorite kind of soup?

Challenge

Jacob and Esau lived in a state of distrust after this event. Once trust is broken, it’s hard to get it back. The best way to earn trust is to do what you say you will do and to be honest. What are some things you can do this week or even today that you’ve already said you will do?

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for being a trustworthy guide for us in all things. Amen.
