Thought

Paul and the men sailing with him faced a massive storm on their way to Rome. The men were terrified, but Paul had seen an angel who told him that none of them would be lost. Even though the ship crashed, and the men had to swim to shore, no one lost his life—not even Paul when he was bit by a snake! Paul trusted God’s plan. We can trust that God will do what’s best for us no matter what comes.

Word

Romans 12:2 NIV

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Question

Why do bad things happen to people?

Did you know that many people in the ancient world believed that if bad things happened to you, you must have done something bad? When Paul was bit by a snake, what did the islanders think about Paul? What do you think when bad things happen to people?

Challenge

Draw a bunch of thought clouds on a piece of paper. In each cloud, list an answer to this question: What do you fear? After you have written out your fears, fill in each cloud with scribbles so you can’t see the words you wrote. Write this message somewhere on your paper: “I will trust God in the storm.” Think about who you can share your fears with when you feel overwhelmed by storms of worries.

Prayer

God, thank You that we can trust You in everything. Amen.
