The story of Cain and Abel is one of firsts. It’s the first time we see humans giving thanks to God in the form of an offering. But sadly, it’s also the first time we see a human murder another. It seemed as though Cain didn’t offer God the very best of what he had. Instead of having faith that God would provide for him and that God would still love him despite his failings, Cain started on a path to destruction. He did not listen to God’s warning to rule over sin. But even so, God was faithful to Cain and protected him.
