Thought

Throughout the Bible, people are given a choice: serve God or serve yourself. A famous line from the book of Joshua 24:15 is, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” Compare the choice of Hushai against the choice of Ahithophel and learn: God does not help those who serve only themselves.

Word

Deuteronomy 10:12–13

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

Question

What does being humble mean?

What do you think it means to be humble? When you think of humble people you might know, who comes to mind?

Challenge

Choose someone in your family whom you could serve for an entire day. What are the things you notice that they do every day for others? Do those with or for them.

Prayer

Lord, give me wisdom to know how to serve You best. Then I can serve You with my whole heart. Amen.
