Thought

Whenever the Pharisees became angry with Jesus, He responded calmly and with authority. In every situation, Jesus acted and spoke in wisdom that could only come from God. The people He ministered to were grateful that He didn’t treat them the way the Pharisees treated them. Jesus ministers to us in the same way today. He not only treats us with wisdom and grace, but He helps us to treat others with wisdom and grace too.

Word

Matthew 9:12 NIV

On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

Question

What can you do when someone does not want to hear about Jesus?

Sometimes even just talking about Jesus can make some people angry. What could you do in a situation like that to learn more about a person’s perspective, even if they don’t want to hear about Jesus?

Challenge

Identify some people in your community or in your school who might be people you wouldn’t normally be friends with. Think about how Jesus would react to these people. Sometimes being welcoming like Jesus could start with something as simple as saying “Hi” or complimenting a person on what they’re wearing or something they did. Think about what you can do this week to be a better friend to those around you.

Prayer

God, help me to be wise in how I act toward others and how I respond when people get angry. Amen.
