Thought

The four young Jewish men served the same God. They had a common goal to honor the Lord even though they were surrounded by idol worshippers (which is why they chose to eat different food—food not part of the offering to false gods). But they also had one another. Choosing friends who believe what the Bible says is important. Sometimes it’s easier to have courage when you feel you aren’t alone. God gives us family and friendships in the church to help us stay strong.

Word

Daniel 1:20 NIV

In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

Question

Ever wonder what the difference is between a vegan and a vegetarian?

Vegetarians choose not to eat meat but will typically eat dairy products. They may also eat eggs. Vegans, however, avoid consuming all animal products. You might see the words “plant-based” on food packages. A plant-based food may be fine for vegetarians but might not be what vegans want (for example, it might contain honey, butter, or other products that vegans don’t want to eat).

Challenge

Time yourself doing a physical challenge, such as sit-ups or push-ups, for one minute, or holding an object such as a dictionary or a can of soup in your hand with your arm outstretched in front of you for as long as you can. Record the number of sit-ups or push-ups you did or record how long you were able to hold the object. Now, ask your parents to help you organize a healthy meal plan for the week—including lots of vegetables! At the end of the week, redo the physical challenge. Record your results. Were you stronger?

Prayer

Lord, guide me in ways that honor You so that I can be a good example to those around me. Amen.
