Thought

Four special prophets offered hope in four unique ways. Hosea had hope in God’s unfailing love. Amos hoped a new beginning would come after God’s people turned away from their selfish ways. Joel hoped for new leadership in the coming age. And Micah hoped for the Savior, Jesus, to be born. Hope comes from reading God’s Word and remembering His promises during hard times.

Word

Psalm 9:18 NIV

But God will never forget the needy;
the hope of the afflicted will never perish.

Question

Why do you think God used prophets to talk to the Israelites?

God used prophets to communicate with His people in a way they could hear and understand. Prophets often had extreme messages to give the people, and they sometimes acted out these messages in extreme ways.

Challenge

The book of Hosea has 14 chapters. Joel has three. Amos has eight. Micah has seven. If you read a little over one chapter a day for the next month, you can finish all four books!

Prayer

Dear God, as I read the Bible, fill my heart with an everlasting hope in Jesus Christ. Amen.
