The people at Bethesda had put their faith in a legend about a pool, but Jesus knew that the pool could never truly heal them. He came to a man who had suffered from a condition for 38 years, and Jesus asked the man if he wanted to be healed. Then He healed him immediately! Jesus knew what this man needed without him asking, and He knows what we need before we ask.
When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
What do you think: Why do people sometimes put their faith in things that aren’t Jesus?
Take a poll of your friends or family. Ask them to name the top three things that people need to be happy. Record the answers (either on video or on paper). Think about how often people want things outside of Jesus to make them happy.
