Thought

Mary, Martha, and their brother, Lazarus, were good friends of Jesus. Once, when He visited their home, Martha was so focused on serving Jesus’ physical needs that she forgot to let Him serve her spiritual needs. While Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, learning, Martha felt like she was doing all the work. She wanted Mary to get up and help her. But Jesus told Martha to let her sister listen. We all need to serve with our gifts, but we also need to take time to let Jesus’s words serve our spirits and bring us peace and refreshment.

Word

Luke 10:41–42 NIV

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Question

What takes your attention away from Jesus?

Challenge

Track the time you spend on different activities for one week. Track how much time you spend with family, with friends, on a device, playing video games, doing schoolwork, reading your Bible, watching YouTube, praying, and so on. At the end of the week, choose someone you trust and review your chart together. What do you think you would like to spend more time on?

Prayer

God, thank You for teaching me Your ways. Please help me to focus on spending time with You. Amen.
