There are “Hamans” everywhere who want to harm the people of God. It could be through mean-spirited laws or through bullying. Like Mordecai, we need to be looking for ways to stop evil. And like Esther, we need to do something about it when it’s our turn to trust God for the courage to act.
“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
In Afghanistan, for example, if someone converts from Islam to Christianity, the government could punish that person by death. And, according to Voice of the Martyrs, at the time of this writing, at least 13 countries won’t allow Bibles to be brought into the country.
