Thought

Jesus met the woman at the well and offered her living water, which she didn’t understand at first. And as the truth began to dawn on her, He told her things about her life that no one could have known. The Samaritan woman believed Jesus was the living water—the way to eternal life—and ran to tell about Him to everyone who would listen. Today, our faith can flow to others like living water when we tell people the things Jesus has done in our lives.

Word

John 4:10 NIV

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

Question

Did the Jews like the Samaritans?

Did you know that in the first century (and before), the Jewish and Samaritan people didn’t like each other very much? Among other things, they had different ideas about how to worship God. Jesus was a Jewish man, so according to their cultural traditions, He shouldn’t have been talking to a Samaritan woman. But Jesus doesn’t let those things get in the way of showing love to everyone.

Challenge

This week, be “living water” to someone who needs to hear about the hope of Jesus. You can do this by being a source of encouragement, refreshment, or relief for someone who has been going through a difficult time. What are some ways you can think of to bring relief to someone like this?

Prayer

God, I’m so glad I can always go to You for hope, strength, and grace. Help me let others know what believing in You means to me. Amen.
