Thought

Joseph was in a terrible spot. His master had trusted him with all his belongings, including his wife, but his wife was determined to cause trouble. And Joseph couldn’t speak up for himself because the woman made it seem as though he had committed a crime! Thankfully, Joseph’s actions proved he was trustworthy all along, even if his master couldn’t see it. Having integrity means doing what is right even when no one is looking AND even when no one will reward you—no one except for God!

Word

Proverbs 12:22 NIV

The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.

Question

What do you do when someone lies about you?

Has anyone ever said something about you that wasn’t true? What did you do?

Challenge

Telling the truth can be hard, especially when it might mean you get in trouble. But in the end, it’s always better be honest about what you’ve done than to add on to your wrongs by lying. Think about anything in the past you’ve had a hard time being truthful about. Ask God to help you be a trustworthy person by making the words you say be helpful, kind, and honest.

Prayer

Dear God, just as You were with Joseph and helped him to be strong and true when things went wrong, I know You will be with me. Help me to trust You more every day. Amen.
