The Pharisees often tried to trick Jesus. After a question about money, a teacher of the Law asked what the most important commandment was, and Jesus told him it’s to love God with everything you have and love your neighbor as yourself. Later, Jesus pointed out a woman in the temple who gave generously to God through her offering. Like this woman, we can give to God out of our love for Him.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
Have you ever done something good or helpful just so someone would see you doing it? Why did you do that? Sometimes we do things to make ourselves look good in comparison to others. But Jesus taught that it’s better to think of ourselves less and think of God and others more.
Show your love for God through doing something kind for someone else without them knowing. Then think about how it went: How do you feel? What else could you do for someone?
God, thank You for teaching us to love You and to love others. Amen.
