Thought

Peter, James, and John had a life-changing experience with Jesus on the mountain. They witnessed Elijah and Moses speaking with Jesus, which further confirmed Jesus’ identity as the Messiah. When they came down from the mountain, a father brought his son to Jesus for healing. The father also asked Jesus to help his own unbelief. Believing in something you don’t fully understand takes effort. Believing in Jesus isn’t just a feeling. It’s a decision we can keep making to understand who Jesus is, to see truth in what He says, and to live like He wants us to live. It’s a choice we make to give our hearts and our whole selves to God, because He made us and loves us first! Jesus is ready and willing to help us—even to help us believe in Him. Jesus always gives us the faith we need.

Word

Mark 9:24 NIV

Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Question

What was the first time a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love?"

The disciples saw Jesus talking with Elijah and Moses. Then a voice came from a cloud and said, “This is my Son, whom I love” (Mark 9:7). There was one other time in the Bible when a voice came from heaven and said those words about Jesus. Can you describe that event? (Hint: It’s in the first book of the New Testament.)

Challenge

Every day this week when you get up, pray the prayer of the father of the sick boy: “Jesus, please help me overcome any of my doubts about You. Amen.”

Prayer

God, thank You for helping us to believe in You and Your love for us even when our faith is a little shaky. Amen.
