Thought

Sometimes after a foolish act—in this case Absalom’s desire for power that resulted in war—there is no obvious human way to find peace. But true wisdom doesn’t worry when a win–win can’t be found immediately. A wise person knows that, over time, God can turn around even a bad situation for His good.

Word

Romans 8:28 NIV

But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.

Question

Who is someone wise you know?

As Solomon grew up, Scriptures tell us he learned from those around him who were wise. Who are the wise men or women in your life you can learn from?

Challenge

Use the provided questions to interview some of your wise elders. Here are suggested questions you can use to interview some of the wise people you know. Ask if you can record the interviews so you can later review and remember what you learn.
Who was the most influential person in your life as you were growing up?
What is one thing you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger?
When did you come to know Jesus?
Was there ever a time you rebelled against something? What was the result?
What’s one thing you wish you had done differently in your life?
What was the best moment in your life so far?
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If you could relive one time in your life, what time would it be?

Prayer

Dear God, life is confusing when it seems as if “bad” guys are winning. Sometimes I don’t know what the best action is. Please give me the wisdom to know that You have things in control even when I can’t see a way that brings goodness. Amen.
