The Philistines kept causing trouble for the Israelites. Time and time again, when the Israelites headed into battle with the Philistines, it did not go well. Then the Israelites had an idea: they should bring the ark of the covenant (the golden box that represented God’s very presence on earth) into battle with them. But the Philistines captured the ark and brought it back to their home. The Israelites were devastated. Bringing the ark was supposed to help! But something incredible happened: the golden statue of the Philistine god, Dagon, broke into pieces before the ark! The Philistines thought that worshipping idols was the way they would find success, but there is only one true God worthy of worship. We get to worship the one true God and remember that God is in control.

Challenge

What does worship look like for you? There isn’t just one way to worship God. He made you to reflect His love and goodness into the world. And we get to praise God for the gift of life through Jesus. What is something that you like to do? Draw? Play music? Dance? Read? Any of these can be a way of worshipping God. Choose something that you like to do, and praise God while doing it!

God, thank You that You are in control and that I can trust You. You are the one true God. Help me to worship You with my life. Amen.
