Thought

The Jewish leaders didn’t like that the apostles were preaching about Jesus, so they ordered them to stop. And when the disciples didn’t stop, the leaders threw them into prison! But an angel appeared to them in the jail and freed them, and as soon as the men were free, they went right back to the temple to preach about Jesus, as directed by the angel. The disciples cared about what God commanded them to do, not what the officials said. Today, God can give us the same courage to speak out for Him.

Word

Acts 5:29 NIV

Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!”

Question

What was the Sanhedrin?

The Sanhedrin was a body that ruled in the Jewish court in Jerusalem. The Sanhedrin had religious, political, and judicial power and could officiate trials and make important decisions and laws.

Challenge

The apostles were bold in sharing their faith in Jesus even when they were told to be quiet. Think of a new way you could share your faith with others: maybe online, in person, or in a unique way. Ask God to give you courage and boldness to share your faith with others.

Prayer

God, please help me share the truth of Your Word, even when some people don’t like it. Amen.
