Thought

Hundreds of important people knew that Absalom wanted to become king. But a single messenger warned King David. Sometimes, it takes only one person’s action of trust in God’s ways to stop evil.

Word

Proverbs 4:14–15 NIV

Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
or walk in the way of evildoers.
Avoid it, do not travel on it;
turn from it and go on your way.

Question

Why do you think King David let Absalom come back?

Look at these verses that give us clues as to what David was thinking: 2 Samuel 13:39; 14:1, 14.

Challenge

In 2 Samuel 14, Joab gave the wise woman words to say and act out to convince King David to act. Joab may have been one of the first commercial writers—he wrote a script to convince someone to buy into a plan. This week, write a commercial for your friends or siblings to act out. It might be a short play written to teach a lesson or to persuade others to do something. Make sure it sounds convincing! If you can’t think of something to write, take the story that the wise woman told and act it out.

Prayer

Lord, help me to be that one person who trusts in You, even when everyone around me is seeking their own way. Amen.
