Thought

Peter and John were walking to the temple one day, and they met a man who couldn’t walk. The man asked them for money, but they had nothing to give him. Peter did what he could, and in Jesus’ name he healed the man! When the temple leaders heard this, they brought Peter and John in for questioning. The apostles testified about Jesus with boldness, and then later they prayed for even more courage. We can be bold and share Jesus with others.

Word

Acts 4:13 NIV

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Question

What does it mean to be bold?

This story occurs after the events of Pentecost, when God first sent His Spirit to fill the believers in Jerusalem. Peter was confident and acted boldly because he saw that God was growing the fellowship of early Christians and empowering them to spread the gospel message. What does it mean to you to be bold? When you think of someone acting courageously or boldly, who do you think of?

Challenge

The man who was healed got up and didn’t just walk—he leaped for joy. Have you ever jumped for joy? See how high you can jump. Ask a friend or family member to help you measure how high. Then measure how high they can jump too.

Prayer

God, thank You for giving us courage so we can tell other people about You. Amen.
