Thought

The pattern of the behavior of the Israelites (and in fact, the pattern so familiar to all of us, sadly) can be seen early in their journey into the wilderness. It went like this: 1) God does something amazing and they worship Him; 2) time passes, things get hard, and they forget how amazing God is; 3) they have doubts or give up on God and look for help from other sources. It is hard for humans to remain faithful. But the more we know about God and the more we spend time with Him, the easier it is for us to remember to worship Him only.

Word

Exodus 16:8 NIV

Moses also said, “You will know that it was the Lord when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against the LORD.”

Question

What is something you complain about?

Everyone complains sometimes. When we don’t like something that’s happening and don’t have a way to change it, complaining is a habit that’s easy to fall into. What is something you complain about?

Challenge

Try to go a whole week without complaining even once!

Prayer

God, help me remember that You are always with me, even when I can’t feel that You are there. You are my helper every day and I depend on You. Amen.
