Thought

Paul and his friends traveled great distances and made dangerous journeys to preach the gospel message to people. They obeyed God’s leading and His command to teach others about Him. But preaching isn’t the only kind of service we can do for God. When Paul met Lydia, she was already serving God through worship. Being a dealer in purple cloth (which she likely would have sold to the wealthy), she had a business and a reputation to maintain. But she served God by offering her home to these followers of Jesus, even giving them shelter later on when they came straight from prison. Each of us has many ways that we can serve God when we follow His lead.

Word

1 Peter 4:8–10 NIV

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

Question

Who is the author of Acts?

Hint: See Luke 1:1 and Acts 1:1. They are both written to Theophilus.

Challenge

Look at the map that shows where Paul went on his second missionary journey (page 782). Compare his route with a present-day map and see how many of the countries we know today Paul traveled through.

Prayer

God, thank You for guiding us to the places You want us to serve and share Your good news. Amen.
