Thought

The ten plagues were terrible, but they served a greater purpose. They showed the power of God above all other gods that the Egyptians worshipped. The plagues also showed that God had indeed heard the Israelites’ cries of suffering and was coming to save them.

Word

Exodus 9:16 NIV

But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

Question

Which plague do you think was the worst? Why?

Each of the plagues seemed to focus on a certain kind of fear. For example, fear of storms, fear of frogs and bugs, fear of darkness, and fear of personal pain or disfigurement. If there was a plague that was designed to trigger one of your greatest fears, what would it be? (For this author, it might be a plague of bats!)

Challenge

For a memory challenge, try to learn the names of the plagues in order. (You’ll need to read a little further in Exodus to find them all.)

Prayer

God, help my faith to grow strong and bold, so I can live for You. Amen.
