Thought

Jesus’ first public miracle was at a wedding celebration. For religious feasts and celebrations of that time, it was the custom for the host to provide for his guests—offering food and drinks. Wine in the Bible could refer to grape juice or to fermented grape juice (more like the wine people think of today). If the host couldn’t provide for his guests, it was considered shameful. So when this host ran out of wine, Mary, Jesus’ mother, came to ask her Son for help. And Jesus did help. He served the host and his guests by changing simple water into something special, satisfying their thirst and saving the host from shame. When we serve others in the name of Jesus, we are following in His steps, providing what is needed and showing His grace.

Word

John 2:11 NIV

What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Question

How much wine did Jesus make at the wedding?

If you look in the story from John 2 in the Bible, you’ll see there were six jars, and each of the jars held from 20 to 30 gallons. Let’s say each jar held about 25 gallons. You can do the math to see how many gallons Jesus changed.

Challenge

The servants at the wedding didn’t understand what Jesus was telling them to do, but they obeyed anyway. When your mom or dad asks you to do something this week, even if you don’t understand why, see what good can come from obeying and doing the act of service.

Prayer

God, please help me to obey You, so I can be a part of Your miracles too. Amen.
