Aaron

Israel’s first high priest. Aaron was three years older than his brother, Moses. Aaron was Moses’s helper during the forty years the Hebrews spent in the wilderness before they entered Canaan. Although Aaron sometimes sinned, he also did some heroic things. Once a large group of Israelites rebelled against Moses and Aaron. God sent a terrible disease as a judgment, and many people died. Aaron took a container with fire and incense from the tabernacle altar and ran among the people so God would forgive them. God stopped the disease. Aaron and his four sons became the first priests to serve in the tabernacle. Aaron died at age 123, before the people entered the Promised Land.
