Ammonites
Ammon was a son of Lot and the ancestor of the Ammonites. God told Moses not to fight with them when the Israelites left Egypt for Canaan. Many years later, however, the Ammonites became persistent enemies of the Israelites. The Ammonites were fierce and worshipped idols like Molech. Saul once fought and defeated them.
During short periods, they were friendly to David. But the Ammonites mostly remained enemies for nearly a thousand years. When Nehemiah came back from exile to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem about 444 BC, one of those who opposed him was Tobiah the Ammonite. The Ammonites apparently survived until about 100 BC.
