Aram/Arameans

A nomadic group of people living in Mesopotamia (now Syria). They were also known as the Chaldeans. Damascus was one of their major cities. The Arameans defeated the Assyrians, led by King Tiglath-pileser. After becoming king of Israel, David led his troops to defeat the Aramean army. During the time of the prophet Elijah, Ben-Hadad, the king of the Arameans, led his army against the northern kingdom of Israel, but was defeated by King Ahab’s army.
