Artaxerxes

The king of Persia and the son of Xerxes. Artaxerxes reigned from 465 to 424 BC—the time of Ezra. When the people around Jerusalem complained to Artaxerxes about the rebuilding of the temple, he wrote a letter, ordering the rebuilding to stop. When Ezra returned, the king wrote another letter, allowing the rebuilding to continue.
