Camels

Camels were important in the Middle East because they are very hardy and can live forty to fifty years. They are cud-chewing vegetarians and have a three-part stomach that can store a three-day water supply. The Israelites were not permitted to eat camel meat, but other nations often ate it. Camel hair was used in making cloth. To own camels was a sign of wealth. Job had three thousand camels before his troubles began, and later in life he had six thousand.
