Corinthians, 1 and 2

Two letters Paul wrote to the church at Corinth (a city in what is now southern Greece). Paul wrote the letters during his third missionary journey around AD 55 or 56. In the first letter, Paul answered some questions he had received in a letter from the Christians in Corinth. The church at Corinth had many problems. They didn’t always get along. Paul reminded the Corinthians that Jesus alone was their Master and that everything they had should be used to honor God.

First Corinthians 5:9 refers to a letter written to Corinth before 1 Corinthians, which was not included in the Bible. The second letter to the Corinthians, however, was written during Paul’s third missionary journey, and was a personal message to the church.
