Darius

The name of several rulers of the Medo-Persian Empire. Darius is mentioned in the story of Daniel. He was the king who made Daniel one of his officials. Another King Darius appears later in the book of Ezra. During his reign, some people tried to stop the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Darius looked through old records and found a decree from Cyrus, king of Persia, saying that the Jews were free to rebuild the temple. Darius ordered that the rebuilding could continue.
