Deuteronomy, Book of

The fifth book in the Old Testament reviews many of the laws God gave to the people through Moses. The name Deuteronomy comes from a Greek word meaning “second law.” As the people of Israel gathered at the edge of the Jordan River, Moses reminded them of God’s agreement with them. He repeated many of the stories of their years in the wilderness. The closing chapters tell how Joshua would now lead the people to conquer Canaan after the death of Moses.
