Donkeys/Mules

Donkeys in the Bible are the same as our modern donkey. They were used for heavy farmwork and were also ridden with a saddle. Mules are a cross between male donkeys and female horses. While horses were used for war, rulers and great men usually rode donkeys when they were on a peaceful journey. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, this action fulfilled a prophecy made by the Old Testament prophet Zechariah.
