Elymas

A Jewish magician and a false prophet. His real name was Bar-Jesus, which means “son of Jesus (or Joshua).” He was called Elymas because that name was connected with magic. Paul and Barnabas met Elymas when they came to the town of Paphos. A Roman officer Sergius Paulus wanted to hear Paul’s message about Jesus, but Elymas tried to prevent that. Paul proclaimed that Elymas would be blinded for a time. Paul’s words came true.
