Esau

The firstborn son of Isaac and Rebekah and the twin brother of Jacob. Before their birth, God told Rebekah that the elder would serve the younger. This was the opposite of the custom of that time—usually the older person had more authority.

Esau loved hunting, but he seemed to care nothing for God. Once when he was hungry, he sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of bean soup. When the time came for Isaac to bless his sons, Jacob tricked his father into giving him the blessing that belonged to Esau. As a result, Esau planned to murder Jacob, but Jacob escaped.

Years later, when Esau was living at Mount Seir, he heard that Jacob was returning. Jacob sent a large gift of cattle and sheep to Esau because he was afraid. Esau took four hundred men with him when he went to meet Jacob. But when he saw him, Esau ran to his brother and forgave him.
