Gamaliel

A well-known Pharisee and teacher living in Jerusalem. The apostle Paul was one of his students before Paul became a Christian. When the church was just beginning in Jerusalem, the Pharisees and priests ordered the apostles not to preach about Christ. When the apostles said they must obey God rather than men, the Pharisees and priests wanted to kill them. The highly respected Gamaliel advised against that action. The council took his advice.
