Goats

Goats were important sources for milk and meat. They were also used in sacrifices. Their hair was made into clothing and their skins into containers for water and wine. Young goats are called kids and were used for food on special occasions and sometimes as sacrifices. In Exodus 23:19 the Jews were told, “You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk” (

esv). This command is why many Jews still do not eat meat and milk at the same meal.
