Jezebel

The scheming wife of Ahab, king of the northern kingdom. Jezebel came from Phoenicia, a country near the mountains of Lebanon. She wanted the people of Israel to worship gods like Baal. Because of this, she had many of the prophets of God put to death. When the prophet Elijah had her prophets of Baal killed, Jezebel ordered Elijah to be killed. He escaped and later told Ahab that God’s judgment would fall on Jezebel and Ahab. Ahab died in battle, and Jezebel died when she was thrown from a window in her palace.
